What Documents Macau Expats Need for a Tour to Tibet?
Like expats in other cities in mainland China, expats in Macau need to prepare a Tibet Travel Permit firstly. The application process needs to be done by a Tibet travel agency. So, you can contact us or other reliable travel agency for Tibet tourism and book a tailor-made tour. Then you will be asked to send copies of your Chinese visa, passport, and some other necessary papers. Once they get your copies of those papers, they can start to apply for the Tibet Travel Permit for you. It will take several working days. So, you need to book a tour in advance and wait for your Tibet Travel Permit to be issued. It will be delivered to the address you provide once the agency received it from Tibet Tourism Bureau.
There are other papers you need to apply for if you intend to visit places other than Lhasa and its surrounding places. There are Alien’s Travel Permit and Military Area Entry Permit that will allow you to enter some other places. You Tibet tour consultant will inform you the details if you need those papers.
What’s more, according to the local policy, tourists need to carry a negative nucleic acid test report within 7 days. Paper report may be necessary for your entry to Tibet. And tourists also need to show the Green Health Code and 14-day Dynamic Trip Record on the app of Alipay and WeChat. If you have been to some high-risk area recently, you’d better share the information with your travel consultant to see whether you can enter Tibet or not.
How to Get to Tibet from Macau?
There is no direct train or plane connecting Lhasa and Macau. Tourists can only take flights to get to other major cities in China first. Expats in Macau can choose to fly to Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, and Wuhan and then transfer to the flight to Lhasa. And then transfer to Lhasa by taking a flight. Currently, there are 9 flights from Macau to Beijing, 13 flights from Macau to Shanghai, 4 flights from Macau to Chengdu, and 2 flights from Macau to Wuhan. Macau expats can decide which city they want to travel to and make their decision.
If you want to take a train to get to Lhasa, you can also fly to Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, and Wuhan firstly. Tibet trains are available in those cities. However, another choice is to get to Zhuhai Train Station from Macau and take high-speed train C7690 to Guangzhou. And board a train in Guangzhou to Tibet. Or they can board a train to get to Tibet in these major cities that they can fly to. A Tibet train tour is definitely one of the most amazing experience in one’s life.
What About High Altitude Sickness?
Most tourists will have high altitude sickness symptoms when they first get to Tibet. But it will be OK once your body gets acclimated to the low oxygen environment. If you take a flight to get to Lhasa, please do remember to walk slowly first and get some rest in the hotel. Don’t take a shower in the first few days. If necessary, call for help from your travel guide. If you take a train to Lhasa, you will be transferred to another train with oxygen supply systems at Xining Train Station. Most tourists will only feel very sick and uncomfortable when the train reaches the highest point - Tanggula Pass. It it highly recommended that you try to be positive to overcome the high altitude sickness. However, if you feel very bad or your symptoms are getting worse and worse, please seek for help from the train attendants and they will send professional medical staff to help you get through it.
