  • Mr. De Vries from Netherlands, asked on July 2nd, 2024

Classes and Comfort Level of Sleepers

I'm planning to take the train from Lanzhou to Lhasa as part of a tour package. What are the options for sleeper cabins on the train, and can you provide details on the amenities and comfort level of the soft sleeper class compared to the hard sleeper class?

Mr. Tseten Namgyal from Tibet Horizon, answered on July 2nd, 2024

Dear De Vries, thank you for extending your question to us regarding the sleeper cabins on Tibet train. On the train journey from Lanzhou to Lhasa, you have the option to choose between hard sleeper and soft sleeper classes.

A hard sleeper compartment typically ha six berths, divided into upper, middle, and lower berths. Each berth comes with a pillow, blanket, and a small storage space. The hard sleeper class is more economical but offers less privacy and can be noisier due to the open layout. The soft sleeper class provides a more comfortable and private experience. A soft sleeper compartments usually have four berths per section, with two upper and two lower berths. These compartments often have doors that can be closed for privacy. The beds in the soft sleeper class are generally larger and more comfortable than those in the hard sleeper class. For travelers, the soft sleeper class is recommended for a more restful journey, especially on the long trip to Lhasa. It offers a better night's sleep, increased privacy, and a more comfortable environment to relax and enjoy the scenic views as the train traverses the vast landscapes.

When booking your train tickets, it's important to consider your preferences for comfort, privacy, and budget to select the most suitable class for your journey. And please remember to book early as the Tibet train tickets are in high demand. If you have any further questions or need assistance in booking tickets, feel free to contact us!
