2009Started My Career as a Tibet Tour Guide

In 2009, I started my career as a Tibet tour guide, leading small groups in Lhasa and nearby areas. I also helped guests adjust to the high altitude and understand local customs. During longer trips, I accompanied them to Everest Base Camp (EBC) and Mount Kailash, ensuring safe travel and smooth logistics throughout Tibet.

2010Became a Sales Manager

In 2010, I became a sales manager. I focused on helping our clients plan trips to Lhasa, Mount Kailash, and Everest Base Camp. I worked closely with clients to design itineraries, explained relevant Tibet permits, and arranged transport, hotels, and local guides. I also answered detailed questions about altitude, weather, and cultural customs, so travelers could prepare well before arrival.

2012Promoted to a Team Leader

Through years of hard work and dedication, I was promoted to a team leader, overseeing a team of nearly 27 tour guides and staff. I trained new guides in altitude awareness, cultural interpretation, client service, and safety protocols to ensure smooth Tibet tours. My leadership qualities and commitment to excellence have earned me recognition and respect in the Tibet tourism industry.

2016Founded My Own Travel Agency - Tibet Brahmaputra International Travel Agency

Recognizing the need for a new approach to travel in Tibet, I founded Tibet Brahmaputra International Travel Agency Co. Ltd in 2016. With a clear vision for providing exceptional service and experiences, I have assembled a team of 20 dedicated employees who share my passion for travel and hospitality.

FAQs on Traveling to Tibet with Tibet Horizon

1. Is it safe to travel to Tibet now?

Yes, Tibet is safe and well-managed for international visitors. As the founder of Tibet Horizon, I can confirm that organized Tibet tours are safe and stable. Routes to Lhasa, Mount Everest Base Camp, and Mount Kailash follow clear regulations. With your Tibet Travel Permit, a licensed guide, and proper altitude acclimatization, your journey will be both secure and seamless.

2. Can I travel to Tibet independently?

No. All international tourists must book their trips through a reputable Tibet travel agency, like Tibet Horizons, to enter Tibet.

3. What to know before visiting Tibet?

Before visiting Tibet, you should understand the high altitude, travel restrictions, and cultural etiquette. Places like Lhasa, Mount Everest, and Mount Kailash are above 3,650m, so altitude acclimatization is important. Independent travel is not allowed, and you must join an organized Tibet tour. It is also important to respect Tibetan Buddhism and local customs during your journey.

4. How do I get a Tibet Travel Permit (TTP)?

The Tibet Travel Permit must be arranged through a licensed Tibet travel agency. As a qualified Tibet travel agency, we handle the full permit process after you book a tour and provide your passport and China Visa details. The TTP is required to board flights or trains to Tibet, so it should be applied for at least 2–3 weeks in advance.

5. What to pack for a Tibet tour?

I recommend packing layered clothing to prepare for changing weather. Essential items include a warm down jacket, thermal wear, a waterproof outer layer, and comfortable trekking shoes. Don’t forget sunglasses, sunscreen, lip balm, and gloves for high UV and cold conditions. A small first-aid kit and altitude sickness medication are also important for your Tibet tour.

6. What is the best time to visit Tibet?

The best time to visit Tibet is from April to October. This period offers more stable weather and clearer views of Lhasa, Everest Base Camp, and Mount Kailash. May to June and September to early October are especially ideal for Tibet tours, as temperatures are comfortable and road conditions are better. Winter travel is possible, but it is much colder and more challenging. Therefore, we generally do not recommend visiting Mount Kailash in winter.

7. How much is a trip to Tibet?

The cost of a Tibet tour depends on route, duration, and group size. On average, a standard Tibet tour costs around $800 to $2,000 per person, including permits, guide service, accommodation, and transport. Mount Kailash pilgrimage tours are usually higher due to longer routes and logistics. Joining a Tibet group tour can help reduce overall travel costs.

8. What currencies are used in Tibet? Can I use a credit card and ATM Machines?

The best way is to exchange enough cash in Lhasa in one go. Credit cards are accepted in some hotels, large restaurants, and shops in Lhasa, but not everywhere. In smaller towns and on trekking routes, card payment is usually not available. ATMs are available in Lhasa and Shigatse, two of the biggest cities in Tibet. For a smooth Tibet travel experience, it is best to carry both cash and a backup payment option.

9. How do I prevent altitude sickness in Tibet?

Preparation for high-altitude travel should include light cardio months in advance. Upon arrival in Tibet, it is important to ascend slowly and allow time for acclimatization. Drink plenty of water, rest well, and avoid alcohol or heavy meals in the early stage of your trip. Some travelers choose to bring basic altitude sickness medication after consulting a doctor. During the journey, follow your guide’s instructions and move at a steady pace. All in all, proper preparation and a well-planned itinerary are key to a safe and comfortable Tibet experience.

10. Are there age limits for travelling to Tibet?

No, there are no strict age restrictions for traveling to Tibet. Generally, children over 5 years old and adults up to around 70-75 years old can join a Tibet tour if they are in good health. However, high-altitude trips, such as Mount Kailash Kora, may require stronger physical conditions and are not recommended for very young children or elderly travelers. It is always best to consult your doctor and discuss your travel plan with your Tibet tour operator before booking.

11. Does the tour guide speak English or other languages?

Yes, we provide professional English-speaking guides to help international travelers understand local culture, monasteries, and high-altitude travel conditions clearly. In addition to English, some guides may also speak other languages, such as German, depending on availability. If you have any language requirements, you can communicate with our travel consultant.

12. When should I book a trip to Tibet?

It is recommended to book your Tibet tour at least 2 months in advance, especially during the peak travel season. This allows enough time to arrange your Tibet Travel Permit, which is required for all foreign travelers before entering Tibet.
