Mr. Ken from America, asked on November 21st, 2024
Options for traveling to Tibet from Kathmandu
What are my different options for traveling to Tibet from Kathmandu?

Mr. Kalsang Rinchen from Tibet Horizon, answered on November 21st, 2024
Dear Ms. Melody, I am happy to answer your question.
There are several different modes of transportation you can choose from when traveling from Kathmandu to Tibet, depending on your schedule and travel preferences.
First, flying is the most direct and convenient option. Direct flights from Kathmandu to Lhasa usually take just over an hour, making it a great option for travelers who are on a tight schedule. During the flight, you can overlook the magnificent Himalayas, which will be an unforgettable aerial journey.
Another option is a road trip, where you can take a long-distance bus or charter car from Kathmandu, drive along the border between Nepal and China, and enter Tibet through the Jilong Port. The journey takes about 7-8 hours, and the plateau scenery along the way is very spectacular, making it a great way to experience the original charm of Tibet.
Finally, although there are no direct trains from Kathmandu to Tibet, you can choose to fly to a large city in China (such as Chengdu or Chongqing) first, and then take a train to Lhasa. Train travel is a more leisurely option, and you can slowly enjoy the scenery along the plateau railway and experience a different travel experience.
