In summer, the weather may be rainy, but the temperature is higher and tourists can witness the celebration of Shoton Festival. In winter, the weather is cold but tourists can enjoy a lower cost of transportation and accommodation and feel less crowded as there are fewer tourists. Also, Losar, the Tibetan New Year, often falls in February or March.

  • 5. How Much Does the Luxury Tibet Tour Cost?

The cost of a luxury tour in Tibet can vary widely depending on several factors, including the length of the tour, the level of luxury, the accommodations, the mode of transportation, and the activities included. Longer tours, high-end hotels with luxury amenities, vehicles such as SUVs or 4WDs with experienced drivers, gourmet dining, personalized itineraries, private guides, and exclusive access to cultural and festival events may increase the price.

Given these factors, a luxury Tibet tour can range from a few thousand dollars per person for a basic package to tens of thousands for a fully customized, top-tier experience. • 6. What permits are needed to join a Tibet luxury tour?

To enjoy a deluxe Tibetan trip, you typically need the following permits:

Tibet Travel Permit: This permit is issued by the Tibet Tourism Bureau (TTB) and is required for all foreign travelers visiting Tibet.

Aliens' Travel Permit: Travelers traveling to partially restricted areas such as EBC, Basumtso Lake, Samye Monastery, etc. need to obtain Aliens’ Travel Permit via Tibet Travel Agency (like Tibet Horizon).

Military Area Entry Permit: Travelers visiting military-sensitive areas such as Mount Kailash, Lake Manasarovar, etc, need to apply for a Military Area Entry Permit.

  • 7. How to deal with possible altitude sickness when traveling in Tibet?

Traveling on the Tibet Plateau with an average altitude of over 4,000 meters, it’s common for some tourists to experience altitude sickness. The symptoms of altitude sickness can include headache, nausea, and dizziness.

To minimize the effect of altitude sickness, it is important to allow time to acclimate to the high altitude and to take precautions to prevent altitude sickness. Travelers should drink plenty of water, eat light meals, and avoid alcohol or caffeine. It is also recommended to take a slow path in the first two days after entering Tibet. The itineraries of our Tibet luxury tours are hassle-free, taking you to the landmarks and villages within and around Lhasa and allowing you to explore the stunning sites and cultural splendors on a slow path.

If you feel uncomfortable, tell your guide. We have prepared oxygen tanks in our vehicles. You can inhale oxygen and take medication when necessary. If symptoms of altitude sickness persist or worsen, we’ll help transfer you to the hotel or hospital to seek medical attention immediately.

    Festivals of Tibet in August

I'm planning to travel to Tibet in August. I read on a website that there's a horse racing festival in Nagqu during August. I'm wondering if there are any other festivals in August besides this one. Could you provide me with some information about it? Also, can foreigners participate in these festivals?

The train from Beijing to Lhasa

Hello, my husband and I are looking into the option of taking the train from Beijing to Lhasa this October. The issue I'm having is that my husband is not so keen on bunks in the cabin to make it private? Our other option is flying in, but my preference would really be to see some of the scenery!

Mr. Tenzin Jamphel from Tibet Horizon, answered on June 17th, 2020

Dear Marianne, Thank you for consulting us for your travel plans to Lhasa this October.

For a more personalized experience, you can opt for a Soft Sleeper Cabin, which allows you to reserve all four berths. This ensures privacy for you and your husband throughout the journey, offering a more comfortable and tailored experience compared to sharing with strangers. While flying is a quicker option, train travel allows for a more relaxed journey, affording you the chance to stretch your legs, move around, and fully appreciate the changing scenery outside your window.

To book your tickets, it's advisable to do so well in advance, particularly for travel during peak seasons like October, when demand is high. Our ticketing services can assist you in securing the private cabin option, ensuring a smooth and hassle-free booking process. If you'd like to proceed with booking train tickets or require further assistance with your travel arrangements, please feel free to contact us. Our team is dedicated to ensuring you have a memorable and enjoyable journey to Lhasa.
