  • Mr. Thill from Luxembourg, asked on September 26th, 2024

Altitude Sickess During Lhasa Kathmandu Flight Tour

How about the possibility of suffering from altitude sickness when traveling in Lhasa and Kathmandu? Since we are traveling by air, is it possible for altitude sickness to strike suddenly after landing?

Mr. Karma from Tibet Horizon, answered on September 26th, 2024

Dear Thill, thank you for reaching out with your question.

The possibility of suffering from altitude sickness when traveling to Lhasa and Kathmandu is real, especially since Lhasa is situated at an elevation of 3,656 meters (11,995 feet). In fact, not every traveler to Lhasa and Kathmandu will experience altitude sickness. Most of the visitors can enjoy their journey without any issues. For those who might experience mild altitude sickness, symptoms such as headaches, shortness of breath, dizziness, fatigue, and insomnia are common physiological responses. These symptoms are typically mild and often ease significantly by the afternoon of the second day after arrival. It’s suggested to take a slow pace and avoid strenuous activities when touring Lhasa city. Then flying to Kathmandu, the risk is lower since the city is at 1,400 meters (4,593 feet). Follow the guidance of our experienced guide, you can explore this city hassle-free. If you feel extremely unwell during your trip, tell your guide and we will offer timely medical assistance.

If you have any further questions or need additional information, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are here to ensure your trip is as enjoyable and memorable as possible.
