Choose Photography Equipment for Tibet's Scenery
I’ve seen many beautiful photos in other travelers’ blogs! What should I consider when choosing photography equipment to better capture the scenery?

Mr. Tashi Wangyal from Tibet Horizon, answered on January 16th, 2025
Dear O’Sullivan,
Thank you for your question! Tibet is a paradise for photographers given its picturesque scenery. A full-frame camera is recommended for capturing the details and colors. A wide-angle lens is essential for panoramic views of mountains and lakes, and a telephoto lens is great for close-ups of distant peaks. Bring plenty of memory cards, as you’ll likely take many photos. Cold temperatures at high altitudes can drain camera batteries quickly, so pack extra batteries or a portable charger. To protect your camera, a waterproof camera bag is also a good idea.

Kailash Tour During Saga Dawa Festival
Hello! I’ve read a travelogue about a Kailash tour during the Saga Dawa Festival. Does this fall within the peak travel season? Do travel costs in Tibet significantly increase during the peak season? Are there any tips to save money?

Mr. Tashi Wangyal from Tibet Horizon, answered on January 14th, 2025
Dear Schmid,
Yes, the Saga Dawa Festival typically occurs in May or June, which coincides with the peak travel season in Tibet. The main components of a Tibet tour cost include visa and permit fees, transportation and accommodation expenses, and meals. Among these, transportation and accommodation are the most variable, depending on your personal standards and travel timing. Airfare can double during peak season, but train tickets from Chinese Mainland cities like Xining, Chengdu, Shanghai, Beijing, etc. to Lhasa are more stable and cheaper. For accommodation, guestrooms cost around USD 20 per night, economic hotels around USD 30, and upscale hotels are pricier. To save money, avoid peak season, choose public transport, and opt for budget-friendly lodging. Winter travel is also a good idea, as fewer tourists mean cheaper flights and hotels.
