8-day Lhasa EBC Yamdrok Itinerary: An Extraordinary Experience for Me

An unforgettable adventure! Besides the magnificent natural scenery in Yamdrok Lake, I also deeply experienced the charm of Tibetan culture in Lhasa City. The guide not only took us to visit famous attractions like Mount Everest and the Potala Palace but also shared with us the lifestyle and beliefs of the local people. Camping at 5200 meters at Everest Base Camp, gazing at the stars, I felt the infinite vastness of the universe. It was a journey that made me re-examine myself and the world!

Tour Tips:

Knows before You Book:

1. Travelers to Tibet should have a moderate physical fitness level. Patients with serious hypertension, heart disease, asthma, bronchitis, diabetes, and cold should be restricted from traveling to Tibet.

2. Book at least 20 days in advance so the tour operator may have enough time to apply for and deliver your Tibet Travel Permit. Normally, it takes around 8-9 days to process your Tibet Travel Permit from the Tibet Tourism Bureau and another 3-4 days to deliver your Permit to your address in Chinese mainland.

3. A Tibet train/flight ticket is not included in our tour package. If you book with us, we can help you book your train/flight ticket. The train ticket to Lhasa is normally issued 15-60 days before departure. During peak seasons (from June to mid-October, during the Chinese Spring Festival and other public holidays in China), train tickets may be issued only 1-9 days before departure.

4. Price is based on double occupancy. Solo travelers who prefer to stay in a room by themselves need to pay for the additional charge of single room supplement. Please consult our travel consultants for specific prices.

5. Your airport/train station pick-up and drop-off in Lhasa needed to be arranged by the tour agency as foreign visitors are prohibited from independent traveling.

6. If you plan to travel to Lhasa via Kathmandu, please do not apply for a China L Visa in advance. You need to apply for a Tibet Group Visa from the China Embassy in Kathmandu via a travel agency. If you have your China L Visa, it will automatically expire when applying for a Tibet Group Visa.

7. Please read the Payment Methods, Terms and Conditions, and Cancellation policies before you book.

Knows after You Book:

1. Please provide photocopies of your passports and China L visas at least 15 days before the travel date, making sure we have enough time to apply for your Tibet Travel Permit. If you have other type of visas, please contact your travel consultant.

2. Make sure to bring warm and comfortable clothing and walking shoes for your Tibet trip.

3. It is recommended to bring spending cash for the whole trip. In Lhasa, you can withdraw money with a foreign bank card or change your foreign currency into Chinese Renminbi (RMB, CNY).

Questions on Local Transportation by Foreigners

Hello, I want to get to Beijing the 1st of June, take the tibet train to Lhasa and then go to Kathmandu by road. It that possible? I am Spanish and I have the Spanish passport.

Mr. Tashi Wangyal from Tibet Horizon, answered on January 20th, 2024

Dear Rodríguez, thank you for your inquiry! Your travel plan is absolutely possible and quite popular among travelers.

The overland journey from Lhasa to Kathmandu typically takes around 7 days, offering you the opportunity to witness breathtaking landscapes and immerse yourself in diverse cultures along the way. Since your entire trip falls within a 15-day time frame, you can take advantage of a visa-free visit to China with your Spanish passport. You'll just need to obtain the Tibet Travel Permit, which is essential for traveling to Tibet.

If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us. We're here to make your Beijing-Lhasa-Kathmandu adventure a memorable one!

  • Mr. Costa from Brazil, asked on July 11th, 2023

Some questions on different price between Chinese and foreigner

Hello, I study in Shanghai and I'd like to make a tour in Tibet. I know I need Tibet entry permit. I just wonder, why the trip to Tibet for Chinese is twice cheaper that foreigners. If you could help me and recommend good way how to get there and don't ruin my student budget I would be really appreciate.

Mr. Tseten Namgyal from Tibet Horizon, answered on July 11th, 2023

Dear Costa, thank you for reaching out us. The difference in pricing typically stems from several factors. Firstly, Chinese citizens can travel independently in Tibet, while foreign visitors are required to be accompanied by a private guide and vehicle, which significantly increases the cost. Additionally, the cost of transportation within Tibet, especially for long-distance drives, can be quite expensive due to the rugged terrain and remote locations.

To help you stay within your student budget, we recommend considering alternative transportation options such as taking a train to Lhasa from Shanghai, which is generally more budget-friendly compared to flying. You can also save money by booking your train ticket in advance.

If you have any further questions or need assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us. We're here to help make your trip to Tibet enjoyable and affordable!
