Beijing, Xian, Lhasa and Shanghai Train Tour: Vast and Diverse Landscapes

What a remarkable odyssey it is through the vast and diverse landscapes of China. From the moment we set foot in Beijing, we were captivated by the sheer scale and diversity of this ancient civilization. Each city we visited - from the imperial splendor of Beijing to the ancient wonders of Xian, the spiritual serenity of Lhasa, and the modern metropolis of Shanghai - offered a unique perspective on China's rich cultural heritage. In Beijing, the imposing presence of the Forbidden City and the tranquil beauty of the Summer Palace were a testament to China's imperial past. In Xian, the Terracotta Warriors and Horses stood as silent guardians of history, while the Bell Tower offered panoramic views of the city. Arriving in Lhasa, the vibrant colors and intricate designs of the Jokhang Temple and Barkhor Street captivated our senses, while the peaceful ambiance of the Potala Palace left us humbled by its historical significance. Throughout our journey, our guide's expertise and enthusiasm made our experience truly unforgettable. From sharing fascinating insights into each destination to recommending local delicacies, they ensured that every moment was filled with wonder and discovery. We are grateful for the comfortable accommodations and delicious cuisine arranged by the guide, which allowed us to immerse ourselves fully in the local culture. From sampling traditional Beijing duck to savoring the flavors of Sichuan cuisine in Shanghai, every meal was a culinary adventure. Our journey through China was a testament to the country's rich history, diverse culture, and breathtaking natural beauty. We cannot thank Tibet Horizon enough for their impeccable service and for providing us with the opportunity to explore this incredible country.

Tibet Train Journey to Beijing, Xian, Lhasa and EBC

Embarking on such a twelve-day adventure was an absolute delight for someone like me, who revels in exploring diverse cultures. From the bustling streets of Beijing to the historical marvels of Xian, and finally to the enchanting landscapes of Tibet, each day unfolded like a page from a captivating storybook. Standing atop the Great Wall in Beijing, I was awestruck by the sheer magnitude of human ingenuity that built such a monument. Transitioning to Xian, the silent guardians of the Terracotta Warriors and Horses whispered tales of ancient emperors and their conquests, painting a vivid picture of bygone eras. Yet, it was in Tibet where the journey truly took my breath away. Surrounded by prayer flags fluttering in the thin air, the spiritual ambiance of the Potala Palace embraced us, offering a glimpse into the rich heritage of Tibetan Buddhism. The serene Yamdrok Lake mirrored the vastness of the azure skies, while the rugged beauty of the Karola Glacier left me speechless in front of nature's grandeur. Despite the remoteness of our destinations, the tour company ensured that every aspect of our journey was seamless. Our guide are not just knowledgeable but also passionate storytellers, bringing each site to life with colorful anecdotes and historical insights. The skilled drivers maneuvered through challenging terrain with ease, ensuring our safety at every turn. This journey was more than just a sightseeing trip; it was a transformative immersion into the heart and soul of China's diverse landscapes and cultures. Thanks to the impeccable service provided by Tibet Horizon, every moment was filled with wonder and discovery, leaving me with cherished memories that will last a lifetime.

Eye-opening Experience in Tibet Train Tour - Beijing, Xian, Lhasa, Chongqing, Shanghai

I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to our guide for making these two weeks unforgettable. The guide's meticulous service and friendly demeanor made us feel like we were traveling with a close friend who also happened to be an expert on everything we saw. They constantly checked on our needs and ensured everything was perfect. The accommodations and meals arranged by the guide were fantastic. I got to try some local delicacies, which was a delightful and flavorful experience that matched my tastes perfectly. And the variety and quality of the food were impressive. The sights we encountered were incredibly beautiful. The human-made wonders like the Great Wall and the Forbidden City showcased China's ancient architectural prowess, while natural landscapes like the breathtaking views from the Yangtze River cruise offered a refreshing contrast. One moment that stood out was cruising through the Three Gorges, where the stunning scenery left a lasting impression on me. Each city we visited had its unique charm. Beijing was a blend of ancient history and modern vibrancy, Xian offered a deep dive into China's imperial past, Lhasa provided a spiritual and cultural awakening, and Shanghai presented a glimpse into China's future with its dynamic metropolis feel. This journey helped me gain a much broader understanding of China. Each city had its own distinct character and highlights. Beijing impressed with its historical grandeur, Xian with its archaeological treasures, Lhasa with its spiritual depth, and Shanghai with its modernity and energy. I look forward to exploring even more of this fascinating country in the future. This tour was an eye-opening experience, and I can't wait to return and discover more of China's wonders.

I took this mug shot with my husband in the last part of journey - Shanghai. This is the symbol of Xi'an - Da-Yan Tower. When we arrived in Lhasa, I took this picture at Lhasa station.

  • Mr. Wagner from Luxembourg, asked on May 27th, 2024

Risks of Failing to Get a Tibet Train Ticket

Hello! I plan to travel to Tibet in August and want to book a soft sleeper ticket of Beijing-Lhasa train because it offers the most comfort in the long journey. I know that August is the peak travel season. Is there any risk that I won’t be able to get a ticket?

Mr. Tenzin Sherab from Tibet Horizon, answered on May 27th, 2024

Dear Wagner, thank you for contacting us with your question regarding Beijing-Lhasa train ticket. August is indeed the peak travel season, which may increase the risk of tickets selling out quickly. The soft sleeper, being the most comfortable option with private compartments and only four beds per compartment, is a popular choice and can be in high demand.

To mitigate the risk of not securing a ticket, it is highly recommended to book as early as possible. Given the limited number of soft sleeper tickets available, early booking is crucial to ensure you can obtain a seat. It’s possible that you can get a ticket if you don’t book it in advance. Alternatively, you can consider a hard sleeper or a hard seat. Or you can take a direct flight to Lhasa. To assist with your booking and to ensure a smooth travel experience, you may consider using the services of a travel agency like our Tibet Horizon that specializes in Tibet tours, as we can help secure train tickets and handle other travel arrangements for you. If you have further questions, feel free to contact us!
