  • Mrs. Silva from Portugal, asked on June 28th, 2024

    Luggage Restrictions for Shanghai-Lhasa Flight

I'm looking to book a flight from Shanghai to Lhasa and I'm concerned about the luggage restrictions for the flight. What are the restrictions and are there any items I should particularly be aware of when packing for Tibet?

Mr. Karma from Tibet Horizon, answered on June 28th, 2024

Dear Silva, thank you for extending your question to us!

Most airlines allow for checked luggage up to 20-23 kilograms (44-50 pounds) for economy class passengers, but this can vary, so check with your specific airline. The dimensions for checked bags are usually up to 158 cm (62 inches) in total (length + width + height). For carry-on, the standard limit is usually one piece with a maximum weight of 5-7 kilograms (11-15 pounds) and dimensions not exceeding 55 cm x 40 cm x 20 cm (21.5" x 15.5" x 7.5").

Be sure to check for any prohibited items as well, such as sharp objects, flammable materials, and certain liquids and gels, which are regulated for carry-on luggage. Please notice that oxygen cylinders are generally not allowed to bring on the planes, so you don’t need to pack them.

Besides, here are some items you can pack for your Tibet trip. Pack any necessary medications if you're concerned about altitude sickness. It's also advisable to bring light, breathable clothing that can be layered, as the temperature can vary significantly throughout the day. Ensure your Tibet Travel Permit, Chinese visa, and other travel documents are packed securely and easily accessible, as they will be required at the airport and upon arrival in Lhasa.

Before you pack, check the airline's official website for the most accurate and up-to-date information on luggage restrictions and any additional requirements for flying to Lhasa. I hope you’ll have a smooth and wonderful Tibet trip from Shanghai! If you have further questions, feel free to contact us.
