Travel to Tibet from Malaysia via Cities in China

And then travel to Tibet by air or by train. It is better to fly to Chengdu and Chongqing and then get to Lhasa since Chengdu and Chongqing are close to Tibet. Get to Tibet via Beijing
There are 1-2 direct flights from Kuala Lumpur International Airport to Beijing every day, which take about six and a half hours on the road. Tourists can take the chance to visit the most famous attractions in Beijing before they leave for Tibet. There are about 1-2 direct flights between Beijing and Lhasa right now. However, you can also choose to take the train to Lhasa from Beijing, which will take 39 hours and 28 minutes.

Get to Tibet via Shanghai
There are 4-5 direct flights for tourists from Kuala Lumpur to take to get to Shanghai and then transfer to Lhasa. The flights will take 5 hours and 10 minutes to arrive at Shanghai Pudong International Airport. If time permits, travelers can spend one or two days to discover the most developed city in China. But there are no direct flights from Shanghai to Lhasa right now, which means that you need to fly to another city to take direct flights to Lhasa. For travellers who want to experience a train tour to get to Tibet, they can take the train from Shanghai to Lhasa, which takes 44 hours and 32 minutes in total. Or fly to Xining and then take the Tibet train to get to Lhasa.

Get to Tibet via Guangzhou
About 7 direct flights are available from Kuala Lumpur to Guangzhou, taking about 4 hours. Although it is convenient for tourists from Malaysia to get to Guangzhou, there is no direct flight from Guangzhou to Lhasa right now. Tourists can choose to take the train to Lhasa from Guangzhou or fly to Xining first and then take the train to Lhasa.

Get to Tibet via Chengdu
Chengdu is a comparatively better transit city for tourists from Malaysia to Tibet. It is close to Lhasa and there are decades of direct flights flying from Chengdu to Lhasa. Besides, the Tibet train starting from Chengdu only takes 34 hours and 28 minutes. The flight from Kuala Lumpur to Chengdu costs about 4 hours and 30 minutes.

Get to Tibet via Chongqing
It takes 4 hours and 35 minutes to fly from Kuala Lumpur International Airport to get to Chongqing and there is only 1 direct flight daily. But there are nearly 10 flights from Chongqing to Lhasa every day. And the train leaves from Chongqing to Lhasa every other day, taking 33 hours and 45 minutes.

Tibet Travel Permit for Malaysia Citizens

Even though citizens of Malaysia with ordinary passports can enter China for 15 days without applying for a visa, a Tibet Travel Permit is necessary. Only qualified travel agencies can assist tourists in applying for a Tibet Travel Permit from the Tibet Tourism Bureau. So, everything will be arranged after you confirm and book a Tibet tour with TibetTourism or any other travel agency. When you get your permit in your Chinese hotel, please take it since you need to show the permit when boarding the plane or the train to Lhasa.
