If you plan to visit places outside Lhasa, you need an Aliens’ Travel Permit as well. If you travel along the G318 Highway or venture to Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar, you must secure a Military Area Entry Permit. 3. Do I have to book a Chinese Group Visa to enter Tibet from Kathmandu?

If your stay in Tibet, China exceeds the period, you need to obtain one to enter Tibet. To apply for the Chinese Group Visa, you need to reach Kathmandu at least four days prior to your entry into Tibet. Our guide will help you finish your application form and take you to the Chinese Embassy to have your fingerprint recorded. Typically you will get your Chinese Group Visa in four working days.

4. What is the best time to travel in Tibet?

The best time to travel to Tibet is generally from April to October, as the weather is comfortably warm and stable. This period offers clear skies and pleasant temperatures, making it ideal for sightseeing and outdoor activities. If you prefer fewer tourists and lower costs, consider traveling from November to April. During these months, the weather is colder, but the sun makes it warmer during daylight hours. Also, you can visit Tibet during traditional festivals such as the Saga Dawa Festival, Shoton Festival, and Tibetan New Year.

5. How to book Tibet train tickets to Lhasa from Chinese gateway cities?

Booking Tibet train tickets can be done through several methods. You can purchase tickets online via the official 12306 China Railway website or mobile app like Ctrip, or through authorized travel agencies like us Tibet Horizon. The train journey to Lhasa is available from seven gateway cities in Chinese Mainland: Guangzhou, Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu, Chongqing, Lanzhou, and Xining. The trains are well-equipped with oxygen supply and offer different seating standards. Booking in advance is recommended, especially during peak travel seasons.

6. What’s the minimal duration for a Tibet tour that includes Lhasa, Everest Base Camp, Mount Kailash, and Nyingchi?

It takes over two weeks. You can reach Nyingchi first and spend two days enjoying the natural scenery at Lulang Forest, Basumtso Lake, etc., and then drive to Lhasa. Typically, it takes two days to visit iconic landmarks such as the Potala Palace and Sera Monastery. From Lhasa, you can venture to Everest Base Camp via Shigatse. After enjoying the breathtaking scenery at Everest Base Camp, you can continue your journey to Darchen to visit the sacred Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar. This route ascends gradually and allows you to explore the highlights of Tibet in around 13-14 days if you do not do a Kailash Kora.
