  • Ms. Young from Singapore, asked on December 26th, 2024

Altitude of Everest Base Camp and Prevention of Altitude Sickness

What is the elevation of Mount Everest Base Camp? What if I experience altitude sickness?

Mr. Tashi Wangyal from Tibet Horizon, answered on December 26th, 2024

Dear Young, thank you for your inquiry.

Everest Base Camp is at an altitude of 5200 meters, which is one of the higher destinations in this trip. If you are visiting high-altitude areas for the first time, it is possible to experience mild symptoms of altitude sickness such as dizziness and headaches.

However, please don't worry. Our carefully designed itinerary will allow you to spend 2-3 days in Lhasa, which is at an altitude of 3650 meters, to acclimate before moving on to higher altitudes such as Shigatse, Everest Base Camp, and Namtso Lake. Generally, there should not be too severe a high-altitude reaction.

If severe symptoms occur, such as severe headaches or difficulty breathing, you can use the portable oxygen kit we prepare in the car and our guide will seek medical attention as soon as possible. If you have any other concerns, please feel free to contact me and I'm more than delighted to help you.
