Jokhang Temple exemplifies the architectural fusion of Tibetan, Tang, Nepalese, and Indian styles, making it a timeless masterpiece of Tibetan religious architecture.

After leaving Jokhang Temple, you can take a clockwise stroll around it, imagining yourself as a devout Tibetan pilgrim. For a serene experience, find a sweet tea house and learn the peaceful and contented ways of the Tibetan locals.

Tour Tips:

Knows before You Book:

1. Travelers to Tibet should have a moderate physical fitness level. Patients with serious hypertension, heart disease, asthma, bronchitis, diabetes, and cold should be restricted from traveling to Tibet.

2. Book at least 20 days in advance so the tour operator may have enough time to apply for and deliver your Tibet Travel Permit. Normally, it takes around 8-9 days to process your Tibet Travel Permit from the Tibet Tourism Bureau and another 3-4 days to deliver your Permit to your address in Chinese mainland.

3. A Tibet train/flight ticket is not included in our tour package. If you book with us, we can help you book your train/flight ticket. The train ticket to Lhasa is normally issued 15-60 days before departure. During peak seasons (from June to mid-October, during the Chinese Spring Festival and other public holidays in China), train tickets may be issued only 1-9 days before departure.

4. Price is based on double occupancy. Solo travelers who prefer to stay in a room by themselves need to pay for the additional charge of single room supplement. Please consult our travel consultants for specific prices.

5. Your airport/train station pick-up and drop-off in Lhasa needed to be arranged by the tour agency as foreign visitors are prohibited from independent traveling.

6. If you plan to travel to Lhasa via Kathmandu, please do not apply for a China L Visa in advance. You need to apply for a Tibet Group Visa from the China Embassy in Kathmandu via a travel agency. If you have your China L Visa, it will automatically expire when applying for a Tibet Group Visa.

7. Please read the Payment Methods, Terms and Conditions, and Cancellation policies before you book.

Knows after You Book:

1. Please provide photocopies of your passports and China L visas at least 15 days before the travel date, making sure we have enough time to apply for your Tibet Travel Permit. If you have other type of visas, please contact your travel consultant.

2. Make sure to bring warm and comfortable clothing and walking shoes for your Tibet trip.

3. It is recommended to bring spending cash for the whole trip. In Lhasa, you can withdraw money with a foreign bank card or change your foreign currency into Chinese Renminbi (RMB, CNY).

4. Travel insurance is provided by The People’s Insurance Company (Group) of China Limited (www.epicc.com.cn), which covers tourist accident risks only in China. Tourists are recommended to purchase additional insurance on their own.

5. Altitude Sickness is a common reaction in the plateau. Common symptoms include fatigue, insomnia, loss of appetite, headache, etc. Normally such symptoms will disappear in 2 days. You’d better consult your doctor and bring some medicine, such as ibuprofen, acetaminophen and nutrient supplements.

6. During your stay in Tibet, please obey the law and respect the local religion and customs. Do not photograph military facilities, and other politically sensitive areas; Do not accept any news media interview; Do not collect secret intelligence; Do not wave antisocial banners, yelling antisocial slogans; Do not use aerial cameras; Do not venture into areas beyond planned itineraries.

7. Souvenirs like knives, antiques, animal skulls, etc. are not allowed to be taken out of China at customs. Please don’t buy this kind of souvenir.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Mr. Kowalski from Poland, asked on January 11th, 2023

Beijing to Lhasa - train or flight?

Hi, I now have my China visa and want to get my Tibet trip finalized starting begin July to mid June. I had planned to take the train from Beijing to Lhasa but have since been told it would be better for me to fly as I could use the train travel time to adjust to the altitude in Lhasa. I am undecided. Can you give some recommendations?

Mr. Kalsang Younten from Tibet Horizon, answered on January 11th, 2023

Dear Kowalski, thank you for your inquiry! We're glad to hear that you are planning your Tibet trip. Given your travel dates and desire to spend 3 days in Beijing before heading to Tibet, you have a few options for transportation to Lhasa. The quickest option is flying directly from Beijing to Lhasa, allowing you to maximize your time exploring the city and adjusting to the altitude.

Alternatively, if you have more time and prefer a scenic route, you could consider flying to Xining and then taking a train to Lhasa. This journey offers stunning views and a more gradual adjustment to the altitude. While trains to Tibet are equipped with oxygen facilities, the direct train journey from Beijing is quite long, so the Xining route could be more comfortable.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any further questions or need assistance with finalizing your Tibet trip. We're here to help make your journey as smooth and enjoyable as possible!

  • Mrs. Davis from Canada, asked on August 4th, 2022

A Lhasa Tour and EBC visit in February 2025

I am thinking about a Lhasa Tour and EBC visit in February 2025. Some people said it may be not possible in February to get Tibet permit and EBC is closed in February. However, other say it can be arranged. This is confusing.

Mr. Passang Norbu from Tibet Horizon, answered on August 4th, 2022

Dear Davis, thank you for reaching out us. Typically, Tibet is closed to foreign tourists from late February to the end of March due to the Tibetan New Year, or Losar, celebrations. During this period, travel agencies suspend operations, and most attractions are closed. Additionally, permits are not available as staff are on holiday. However, the exact dates of closure can vary each year based on the Tibetan calendar.

As for the best time to visit Tibet, opinions vary. Some suggest that May is ideal due to the lush green landscapes, floral blossoms, and ample sunshine. However, others consider October to March as the low season, with colder temperatures and many roads blocked due to snow. January is typically the coldest month in Tibet. It's essential to consult with reputable travel agencies who can provide accurate information and assist you in planning a trip that suits your preferences and needs.

If you require more assistance with planning your Tibet tour, please feel free to contact us. We're here to help ensure that your trip is both enjoyable and memorable!
