Mount Kailash Ticket Policy & Itinerary Adjustment Notice

According to a joint notice from the Ngari Tourism Bureau and the Mount Kailash Scenic Area, a new ticketing policy has been implemented with immediate effect: Tickets are strictly limited daily, no advanced reservations are accepted, and our tour guide must physically arrive in Darchen to register with the Tourism Bureau before purchasing the next day's tickets.

Due to the uncertainties of on-site queuing and daily capacity limits, we have formulated the following contingency plans to maximize the success rate of securing your tickets and ensuring your travel experience:

Normal Scenario: If we successfully purchase the tickets on Day 1, the itinerary will proceed as originally planned.

Contingency Plan (If tickets cannot be secured on Day 1):

Postponement: The visit schedule will be postponed by one day. The itinerary will be adjusted to visit the sacred Lake Manasarovar first, and the Mt. Kailash travel will instead commence on the morning of Day 3 (after arriving in Darchen).

Condensed Traveling Days: The original 3-day tour duration may be condensed into 2 days.

Itinerary Optimization: To better align with the ticketing timeframes, the schedule before and after the Kailash tour may be adjusted, and some nearby sightseeing spots might be omitted.

    Price depends on group size:the bigger the group, the bigger the savings. The final price will be determined based on the number of passengers on Day 4 of the trip, and your travel advisor will notify you 10 days in advance.

    • 3. Accommodation: 8 nights in twin sharing room, 3-star standard; 1 night in EBC tent guestroom (Multi-bed sharing); 1 night in Dirapuk Monastery guestroom (Multi-bed sharing); 1 night in Zutulpuk Monastery guestroom (Multi-bed sharing).
    • 4. Meals: 6 breakfasts in hotel; 3 breakfasts in restaurant.
    • 5. Guide: Professional English-speaking local Tibetan guide.
    • 6. Entrance Ticket: Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Yamdrok Lake, Karola Glacier, Pelkor Chode Monastery, EBC+Eco-bus, Rongbuk Monastery, Mt. Kailash+Eco-bus, Lake Mansarovar.
    • 7. Oxygen and Water: 1 bottle of portable oxygen for emergency; 2 bottles of 300ml drinking water per person per day; 4L medical oxygen cylinder in car.
    • 8. Travel Insurance: Travel Accident Insurance, Vehicle Seat Insurance, Travel Agency Liability Insurance.
    • 9. Service Fee: All taxes, fees and handling charges; reservation fee for visiting Potala Palace; lodging and dining subsidies for guide and driver.
    • 10. Pick up and Drop off: For Lhasa Gongga Airport, free pick-up is available from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm, and free drop-off from 8:30 am to 10:30 pm. For Lhasa Train Station, both are free.

    Price Excludes:

    • 1. Single Room Supplement: If you are a solo traveler, you need to share a twin room with another tourist (same sex in most cases). If you prefer to occupy a single room, or room sharing isn't available, a single room supplement will be necessary.
    • 2. Meal: lunch, dinner.
    • 3. Tips for guides and drivers.
    • 4. Personal Expenses: Laundry, drink, call, optional tour activities (Lhasa Traditional Handicraft Center, Drepung Monastery, Sera Monastery, Tibetan Village), etc.
    • 5. Exceptional Events: Extra charges due to irresistible reasons.
    • 6. Chinese Visa/ Chinese Group Visa application fees.
    • 7. Ticket: international and domestic flight/train tickets.
    • 8. Other Insurance: Insurance for common altitude sickness or other medical conditions is not included. Trip cancellation insurance, which covers refunds for prepaid expenses (such as flight tickets) caused by an unexpected situation, is also generally not included. To minimize potential losses, we recommend purchasing the insurance in advance.

    Tour Tips:

    Knows before You Book:

    1. Travelers to Tibet should have a moderate physical fitness level. Patients with serious hypertension, heart disease, asthma, bronchitis, diabetes, and cold should be restricted from traveling to Tibet.

    2. Book at least 20 days in advance so the tour operator may have enough time to apply for and deliver your Tibet Travel Permit. Normally, it takes around 8-9 days to process your Tibet Travel Permit from the Tibet Tourism Bureau and another 3-4 days to deliver your Permit to your address in Chinese mainland.

    3. A Tibet train/flight ticket is not included in our tour package. If you book with us, we can help you book your train/flight ticket. The train ticket to Lhasa is normally issued 15-60 days before departure. During peak seasons (from June to mid-October, during the Chinese Spring Festival and other public holidays in China), train tickets may be issued only 1-9 days before departure.

    4. Price is based on double occupancy. Solo travelers who prefer to stay in a room by themselves need to pay for the additional charge of single room supplement. Please consult our travel consultants for specific prices.

    5. Your airport/train station pick-up and drop-off in Lhasa needed to be arranged by the tour agency as foreign visitors are prohibited from independent traveling.

    6. If you plan to travel to Lhasa via Kathmandu, please do not apply for a China L Visa in advance. You need to apply for a Tibet Group Visa from the China Embassy in Kathmandu via a travel agency. If you have your China L Visa, it will automatically expire when applying for a Tibet Group Visa.

    7. Please read the Payment Methods, Terms and Conditions, and Cancellation policies before you book.

    Knows after You Book:

    1. Please provide photocopies of your passports and China L visas at least 15 days before the travel date, making sure we have enough time to apply for your Tibet Travel Permit. If you have other type of visas, please contact your travel consultant.

    2. Make sure to bring warm and comfortable clothing and walking shoes for your Tibet trip.

    3. It is recommended to bring spending cash for the whole trip. In Lhasa, you can withdraw money with a foreign bank card or change your foreign currency into Chinese Renminbi (RMB, CNY).

    4. Travel insurance is provided by The People’s Insurance Company (Group) of China Limited (www.epicc.com.cn), which covers tourist accident risks only in China. Tourists are recommended to purchase additional insurance on their own.

    5. Altitude Sickness is a common reaction in the plateau. Common symptoms include fatigue, insomnia, loss of appetite, headache, etc. Normally such symptoms will disappear in 2 days. You’d better consult your doctor and bring some medicine, such as ibuprofen, acetaminophen and nutrient supplements.

    6. During your stay in Tibet, please obey the law and respect the local religion and customs. Do not photograph military facilities, and other politically sensitive areas;Do not accept any news media interview;Do not collect secret intelligence;Do not wave antisocial banners, yelling antisocial slogans;Do not use aerial cameras;Do not venture into areas beyond planned itineraries.

    7. Souvenirs like knives, antiques, animal skulls, etc. are not allowed to be taken out of China at customs. Please don’t buy this kind of souvenir.

      Yes, there are ample opportunities to interact with local persons and monks along the way, especially during the Mt. Kailash travel and visits to monasteries. On the travel route, you’ll encounter devout persons from various regions, many of whom are completing their spiritual journey on foot. These interactions offer a glimpse into their beliefs and traditions, particularly during festivals like Saga Dawa when persons gather at Tarboche to raise the flagpole. Additionally, at monasteries like Dirapuk and Zutulpuk, you can see monks who may share insights into Buddhist practices. These encounters provide a deeper understanding of Tibetan culture and spirituality while fostering meaningful connections with the local community. Just remember to show respect of their beliefs.
