  • Mr. Van from Vietnam, asked on October 12th, 2024

Best Time to Visit Tsurphu Monastery

What are the best times of the year to visit Tsurphu Monastery, and are there any festivals or events that coincide with the visit?

Mr. Karma from Tibet Horizon, answered on October 12th, 2024

Dear Martin, thank you for extending your question to us!

The best times to visit Tsurphu Monastery are from April to October, which coincides with the warmer months and the most favorable travel conditions in the region. During these months, the temperature is moderate and the sky is clear, allowing you to enjoy the scenery worry-free. You can also experience the annual festival held around the time of the Saga Dawa, which is a month-long celebration of Buddha’s birth, enlightenment and nirvana. It falls on the 15th day of the 4th Tibetan month. This festival is a significant event at Tsurphu Monastery, featuring plenty of traditional ceremonies. Another important festival is Tsurphu Cham Dance Festival which falls on the 10th day of the 4th month on the Tibetan calendar. You can witness cham dancing performance, a ritual to pray for blessing. It's a wonderful opportunity to immerse in the local culture and religious practices.
