At present, residents in Taiwan are not allowed to enter Tibet directly. Once they take a flight to get to Beijing, Shanghai, Xiamen, and Chendgu, they need to obey the rule and be quarantined in designated hotels for 14 days. After they have been in cities in mainland China for over 30 days, they will be able to enter Tibet and enjoy their tour in this mysterious land. If you want to know more updated restrictive policies toward Taiwan residents to Tibet, you can feel free to contact us.

Taiwan residents are not permitted to travel to Tibet on their own. They need to be a part of a tailor-made group tour to enter Tibet or come to join in our group tour. But you can plan your tour totally according to your wishes. And the travel agency will try their best to give you useful suggestions and help you come up with a perfect itinerary for your Tibet trip.

What Taiwan Residents Need for a Tibet Tour?

Different from Hong Kong residents and Macau residents, Taiwan residents need to apply for Tibet Travel Permit to get to Tibet according to the policies. And they can only travel to Tibet with the arrangement of a local Tibet travel agency, which means that they cannot travel alone to Tibet. So, when you have booked a Tibet tour with a travel agency, they will start to prepare your tour. First of all, they will ask for copies of your Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan residents, passport, and other necessary documents required to apply for a Tibet Travel Permit. The process will take about 10 working days, depending on your travel itinerary and the travel season. So, we usually need about 20 working days to make everything prepared. Once your Tibet Travel Permit is issued, the travel agency will deliver the original paper to you. You should carry it when you board the train or flight to Tibet.

If you plan to some special places in Tibet, you may need to apply for a Border Permit. Without a Border Permit, you will be forbidden to travel to places like Tingri county in Shigatse, Cuona County in Shannan Prefecture, and Nagri Prefecture. Your travel agency will take care of all those details and help you acquire all documents you need for your customized tour to Tibet. You just need to prepare for those required papers for the application process in advance.

Besides, you also need a negative nucleic acid test report within 7 days or 3 days, depending on the local policies. Before the date of your departure date, your travel agency will inform you the latest rules of restrictions. If you don't do a test or your test report is not right, you will be required to take the test right after you arrive in Lhasa. And you also need to show your Green Health Code and 14-day Dynamic Trip Record to show that you haven't been to any high risk areas.

    How to Get to Tibet?

Currently, Taiwan residents can only fly from Taipei to Beijing, Shanghai, Xiamen, and Chendgu. So, if you don't want to travel to other places, you can depart from Beijing, Shanghai, and Chengdu. Xiamen is not a good choice since there is no direct train or flight to Lhasa. However, for Taiwan residents in other major cities in mainland China, they can contact us to know which way is the best for them to get to Tibet. Usually, there will be a better solution for them.

Beijing and Shanghai offer direct trains to Lhasa daily, while Chengdu offers Tibet train line every other day. But the traveling time from Chengdu to Lhasa is the shortest. Tourists can also choose to fly to Xining from Beijing, Shanghai, and Chendgu first. And take a train at Xining train station to get to Lhasa, which will be convenient and also time-saving. The scenery on the road will never let you down. Even if the train tickets will be sold out quickly during the peak season of Tibet tourism, your travel agency will try the best to purchase the train ticket for you according to your tour schedule.

But if you want to save time and get to Lhasa directly by air, flights from Beijing, Shanghai, and Chengdu to Lhasa are available for Taiwan residents.

What You Need to Know About High Altitude Sickness?

Usually, people will have high altitude sickness symptoms when they get to a place that is higher than 3,000m above sea level, especially from a low altitude area. Our body needs time to acclimate to the environment of thin oxygen. Mild symptoms can be recovered within one or two days according to your body condition. But it can also get worse for some tourists. In this case, they need to call for help from their tour guide. Or they need to go to hospital and get medical help. But most of the time, tourists will be able to acclimate to the high altitude environment and go on with their tour.
