Locals at Zutulpuk Monastery Guesthouse
There are four main monasteries surrounding Mount Kailash, and Zutulpuk Monastery is the last one. It holds profound religious significance for devotees undertaking the Kailash Kora and serves as an important spiritual waypoint. The monastery's caves contain handprints and footprints of Milarepa, and countless Mani stones inscribed with scriptures surround the monastery, providing strong spiritual support for pilgrims.
On the second day of the kora, the Zutulpuk Monastery Guesthouse provides an ideal resting place for pilgrims who have endured the arduous climb over the Dolma La Pass. Although the facilities are simple, the accommodation is warm and comfortable. The guesthouse offers shared rooms with basic beds and blankets. Electricity is available for limited hours each night, and the power supply may be unreliable; hot water is usually limited. However, there are several local teahouses near the guesthouse where you can enjoy simple yet hearty Tibetan meals such as Tibetan noodles, momos, and rice, providing much-needed energy for the Kailash Kora. The teahouses also offer snacks and drinks, but the selection is limited. Despite the basic facilities, the warm hospitality of the locals and the breathtaking natural scenery more than compensate for any shortcomings.
