The capital of the county is located at Toling. The toling monastery, founded by Richen zangpo in the 10th century, was once Ngari's most important monastic complex. It was due to the influence of Richen Zangpo that Toling became the main religious center of the Guge kingdom after inviting the great Indian master ATISHA. The kings of Guge replaced the city as a political center of power by establishing capital slightly closer to the Indo-Tibetan trade routes. But the monastery is still an important cultural heritage of Ngari.

7. Please read the Payment Methods, Terms and Conditions, and Cancellation policies before you book.

3. It is recommended to bring spending cash for the whole trip. In Lhasa, you can withdraw money with a foreign bank card or change your foreign currency into Chinese Renminbi (RMB, CNY).

4. Travel insurance is provided by The People’s Insurance Company (Group) of China Limited (www.epicc.com.cn), which covers tourist accident risks only in China. Tourists are recommended to purchase additional insurance on their own.

  • Miss Lim from Taiwan, asked on May 25th, 2024

    Permit Needed for Taiwan Compatriots

Hello! We’re a group of friends planning to travel to Chinese Mainland and we want to join a Tibet travel group in Chengdu. Can you arrange necessary travel permits for me? What documents should we provide?

Mr. Tseten Namgyal from Tibet Horizon, answered on May 25th, 2024

Dear Lim, thank you for your inquiry.

Taiwan compatriots must join an organized Tibet tour of a qualified Tibet travel agency and possess necessary documents and permits. Firstly, you should hold a valid Taiwan Compatriot Permit or "Taiwan Resident Permit for Traveling to Chinese Mainland (known as "Taiwan Travel Permit" or "Taiwan Compatriot Certificate"). Then, with your Taiwan Compatriot Certificate, passport, and phone number, we can help you apply for the Tibet Travel Permit, which serves as the prerequisite for your Tibet trip. To visit certain places like Tingri in Shigatse, Cuona County in Shannan Prefecture, and Nagri Prefecture, you need a Tibet Border Permit. To travel to Mount Kailash, Lake Manasarovar, Nyingchi, etc, you also need to apply for a Military Area Entry Permit.

All the necessary travel documents and permits are included in our tour package. If you book with us, we’ll collect documents and copies needed and arrange the application for you, ensuring a smooth and worry-free Tibet journey for you. If you have further questions, feel free to contact us. I sincerely hope you enjoy a wonderful trip in Chinese Mainland and in Tibet.
