The railway from Shigatse to Gyirong Pass is under construction at present. It is expected to offer service in 2022. Currently, it is possible for tourists to take a train from Lhasa to Shigatse firstly. There are three trains departing from Lhasa to Shigatse daily, which will only take less than 3 hours. Then they can take a chartered bus to get to Gyirong and then transfer to Kathmandu after passing the border checkpoint.
