Shigatse is the second largest city in Tibet, serving as a center for Tibetan Buddhism. Tashilhunpo Monastery is a prominent Tibetan Buddhist monastery located in the city of Shigatse. It is one of the most important and historically significant monasteries in Tibet. One of the most remarkable structures within the monastery is the Maitreya Temple, which houses a towering statue of the future Buddha Maitreya. This statue stands about 26 meters high and is adorned with gold, jewels, and precious stones. It is considered one of the largest gilded bronze statues in the world. Sakya Monastery

Sakya Monastery, also known as the Sakya Gompa, is a significant Buddhist monastery located on the southern side of Zhongqu River in Sakya County, Shigatse Prefecture. It is renowned as one of the most important centers of the Sakya School of Tibetan Buddhism. The Sakya Library holds a significant number of ancient manuscripts, Buddhist scriptures, and other valuable writings. Rongbuk Monastery

Situated at an altitude of 4,980 meters (16,340 feet), it is no doubt the highest monastery in the world. Its unique location decides that it serves as the gateway to Mount Everest. And it is also the perfect place to take a look at the north face of Mount Everest. The white pagoda makes the mountain behind it more majestic and breathtaking. Walking from there, tourists will get a chance to see the famous Rongbuk Glacier which stretches more than 20 kilometers. It offers accommodation to tourists who wish to climb Mount Everest but with a condition that is not good. But you won't find another place that is close to the start point of your adventure to climb that greatest mountain. Palcho Monastery

Palcho Monastery, also known as Pelkor Chode Monastery, is a significant Tibetan Buddhist monastery located in the Gyantse County of the Shigatse Prefecture in Tibet. It is situated at the foot of the Dzong Hill and overlooks the picturesque Gyantse town. The reason why it enjoys a high status in Tibet's Buddhism history is that it houses Sakyapa, Kadampa, and Gelugpa together.

Gyantse Dzong is a historic fortress located in the town of Gyantse, renowned for its architectural beauty and cultural significance. It is one of the best-preserved fortresses in Tibet and offers a glimpse into the region's rich history. Constructed in the 14th century during the rule of the Sakya dynasty, Gyantse Dzong has undergone several expansions and renovations. The fortress is an architectural marvel, featuring towering walls, watchtowers, and intricate artwork. Shalu Monastery

Located 20 km southeast of Shigatse, Shalu Monastery is the ancestral temple of the Tibetan Buddhism Shalu sect. This monastery is different from other temples in Tibet as its architecture is a unique blend of Tibetan and Han styles. It is mainly because that many Chinese Han artisans participated in rebuilding the monastery in 1333. Tourists who come here can explore the beautiful architecture, admire the ancient murals, and witness the rituals and ceremonies conducted by the resident monks.
