Miss. Judy from France, asked on May 27th, 2025
Altitude sickness
Will I have altitude sickness when taking the train?

Mr. Karma from Tibet Horizon, answered on May 27th, 2025
Dear Miss. Judy, thanks for your question.
The train rises rapidly along the Qinghai-Tibet line, especially after crossing Golmud, where the altitude rises sharply. About 78% of passengers experience mild altitude sickness such as headaches, insomnia, and dyspnea, and 24% meet the AMS standard. However, the train provides diffuse oxygen supply from Golmud, and the sleeper car is equipped with an oxygen inhalation interface and is equipped with medical staff to relieve discomfort. It is recommended to drink more hot water, lie quietly and rest, carry anti-altitude sickness drugs, and take oxygen in time or inform the crew if there are symptoms. Generally, mild symptoms can heal themselves. Hope you have a comfortable Tibet train journey.
