Located in the southeast of Tibet Autonomous Region, Nyingchi is known as the most beautiful place in Tibet. It connects Chamdo City and Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan Province to the east, Lhasa and Shannan to the west, Nagqu to the north, and Myanmar to the south. The average altitude in this place is about 3,100 meters above sea level, with an area of 117,000 square kilometers.

Nyingchi administrates one district and six counties, namely Bayi District - the main center and the administrative center of Nyingchi, Gongbo'gyamda County with Basum Tso as its main feature, Mainling County - the home of the Nyingchi Mainling Airport, Medog County - the most isolated areas in Nyingchi because of its special lcoation, Bome County, Zayu County that borders Inda and Myanmar, and Nang County.

Taking a flight to get to Nyingchi is the most convenient way from major cities in China. Currently, only Chengdu, Chongqing, Lanzhou, Xi'an, Guangzhou provide direct flight to Nyingchi Mainling Airport. Some of those airlines from other cities will transfer to Chengdu, Chongqing, Lanzhou, and Xi'an. Besides, Nyingchi lies on the route from Chengdu to Lhasa. For those who come to Tibet by an overland tour, they can stop at Nyingchi before they get to Lhasa to enjoy this breathtaking place.

From Lhasa to Nyingchi, tourists can have an overland tour via Lhasa Nyingchi Expressway that follows the old G318. It will take tourists to cross the Mila Pass with an altitude of 5,013 meters and Basum-tso Lake. Then after 5 hours, tourists will arrive at Bayi Town in Bayi District.

On 25th June 2021, the first bullet train line that connects Nyingchi and Lhasa enters service. It enjoys a length of 435 kilometers, featuring 47 tunnels and 121 bridges. For the first time, tourists in Tibet can take a high-speed train to travel in Tibet.
