Due to various reasons, I could only begin my journey to Tibet in the winter. At first, I had some concerns - would the weather be too cold? Would the altitude sickness be too severe? Would the scenery be disappointing? But when I set foot on this sacred land, all my worries disappeared.
Upon arriving in Lhasa, our guide and driver were already waiting at the airport. Their warm and thoughtful welcome immediately made me feel safe and cared for. Winter in Tibet has a unique charm - the entire plateau feels especially quiet and pristine. This peaceful atmosphere only adds to the sense of holiness and solemnity that Tibet embodies.
One of the most unforgettable highlights was Yamdrok Lake. In winter, it is surrounded by a blanket of snow, with the lake merging into the distant sky - a truly breathtaking sight. On the way to Shigatse, we were greeted by endless stretches of snow-covered mountains, making it feel like we had entered a world of ice and snow. The grandeur of Tashilhunpo Monastery, along with the deep devotion of the monks, left me feeling both humbled and serene.
This 6-day cultural journey through central Tibet allowed me to witness the stunning winter landscapes of the plateau and to truly connect with the rich cultural heritage of this land. If you’ve ever hesitated about visiting Tibet in winter, let my personal experience be your answer: don’t wait any longer!
