The Kailash overland journey from Lhasa takes 4-5 days, while from Kathmandu, it takes 3-4 days. Road conditions vary from paved highways to rough, unpaved mountain paths. The route from Lhasa to Darchen (1,400 km) is mostly paved but includes high-altitude passes like Mayum La (5,200 meters). The Kailash Parikrama is a challenging high-altitude trek covering 54 kilometers over three days, with elevations reaching 5,630 meters at Dolma La Pass. The terrain includes rocky paths, steep ascents and descents, and unpredictable weather. While no technical climbing is required, pilgrims must be physically fit and well-acclimatized to avoid altitude sickness. Proper preparation, including prior trekking experience and spending time at intermediate elevations, is highly recommended to complete the kora safely.
