This was one of the most challenging but exhilarating experience. It truly enlightened me with a new awareness of myself. I was very nervous undergoing this trek but with the help and encouragement of our wonderful guide Tseten from Tibet Horizon, my husband and other team members of our group, I was able to complete the Kora. The trek itself was truly spectacular. The scenery is gorgeous. The vibration of everyone doing their best to achieve their most and completing the Kora , especially Dolma La Pass, was such an inspiration. It is said, one step at a time, no rush, walk and rest as many times as you need at your own pace. Do not concern yourself with others pace, just keep moving forward and you will reach your desired destination.
Make sure you prepare for this trek. Research as much as you can. Ask your tour operator as many questions as you need. Being prepared will make this journey a more enjoyable one. Good worn in trekking shoes, good and appropriate clothing for the weather you will incur at the time you visit, healthy energizing snacks, a bottle of water always and sip slowly and often (you can buy water at food tents to avoid carrying too much, 50+ sunscreen applied many times, paw paw cream for your lips, travel tissues for toilet stops, wet wipes for body washing, small glucose drinks for energy, hydrolyte to sustain the body, walking poles. These are just some little tips. The less weight you carry in your backpack the better so that you can move easier and use less energy during the trek. If I had another chance to do this, I would have hired a horse or yak to carry my main pack and just carry water and snacks with me on the trek. You usually need to hire 2 of them for the full trekking days but you could possibly split the charge with another trekker.
You will be surprised how powerful this trek can be especially in mind. If you say you can do it, you can and you will.
This trek was part of a 15 day tour with Tibet Horizon so we got to see and experience so many other beautiful and spiritual places before, during and after the Mount Kailash Kora. Highly recommend.
