  • Mrs. Gan from Singapore, asked on January 7, 2025

Physical Demand of the 9-day Singapore Tibet Tour

Hi, I’m considering joining the 9-day overland tour to Tibet and would love some more information about the physical demands. I’m generally in good health, but I’m a bit concerned about the altitude and how physically challenging the tour might be. How much walking is involved in the itinerary? I understand there are visits to monasteries and landmarks, but are the walks long or strenuous?

Mr. Tenzin Jamphel from Tibet Horizon, answered on January 7, 2025

Dear Gan, thank you for your inquiry.

The tour is moderate in terms of physical demands, with long drives on winding mountain roads but relatively little strenuous physical activity. There will be some walking, especially when visiting monasteries and landmarks, but these walks are generally easy and not demanding. However, the high-altitude regions, especially Everest Base Camp (5200m), may cause fatigue or shortness of breath for those unaccustomed to such elevations. The itinerary is designed to allow gradual acclimatization, with time spent at moderate altitudes before reaching higher elevations, ensuring you have opportunities to adjust. While the tour is manageable for most travelers, it’s important to be in good health and have a reasonable level of fitness. If you have concerns, especially related to breathing or heart conditions, it’s advisable to consult a doctor before the trip. Staying hydrated, avoiding overexertion, and being mindful of any symptoms of altitude sickness—such as headaches or dizziness—are key to ensuring a comfortable experience.

If you have any more questions or need further assistance, please don‘t hesitate to contact us!
