Journey Through the Heartlands: Kathmandu to Mt. Kailash

This 19-day journey was simply beyond expectations, filled with surprises and heartfelt moments. Kathmandu's Nepalese culture left a profound impression on me with its rich history and diverse religious beliefs, broadening my horizons. Upon arriving in Lhasa, the grandeur of Potala Palace and the serene atmosphere of Jokhang Palace were awe-inspiring. The breathtaking views of the two lakes were simply breathtaking, offering a tranquility rarely found in urban settings. Exploring the ruins of the Guge Kingdom felt like stepping back in time, unraveling its mysterious history—a truly unique cultural experience. The most unforgettable part was the 3-day trek to Mt. Kailash, despite its challenges, the strong religious atmosphere and magnificent natural landscapes filled me with a sense of strength. This journey made me deeply appreciate the greatness of nature and the diversity of human culture. Highly recommended to all travel enthusiasts.

Transformative Journey with Tibet Horizon: Kathmandu to Mt. Kailash, Exceptional Service

This 19-day journey was beyond expectations, made even better by Tibet Horizon's exceptional service. We experienced the rich culture of Kathmandu, the majesty of Potala Palace in Lhasa, and the stunning beauty of the two sacred lakes. Trekking Mt. Kailash were challenging but rewarding, especially with the great support from our guides. The peaceful moments at the lake were the perfect end to the trip. From the moment we arrived in Kathmandu, our guide made us feel at home. He shared fascinating stories about Nepalese culture and went out of his way to recommend hidden gems in the city, like a small temple not usually visited by tourists. Raj’s thoughtful approach really set the tone for the rest of the journey. In Lhasa, our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about Tibetan history. He managed to secure us a private audience with a monk at a temple for a special blessing ceremony, which was a deeply moving experience. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a transformative travel experience with excellent service. Tibet Horizon’s attention to detail and commitment to customer satisfaction made this trip unforgettable.

    Traveling from India to Tibet

Hi, We are 2 Indian passport holders wanting to travel to Mount Kailash this year. Which is the better option, flying to Lhasa and going from there or taking a road from India? Please suggest.

Mr. Passang Norbu from Tibet Horizon, answered on April 21st, 2024

Dear Patel, thank you for reaching out!

When considering the best option for traveling to Mount Kailash as Indian passport holders, both flying to Lhasa and traveling by road from India have their advantages and considerations.<br/ > Flying to Lhasa and then traveling to Mount Kailash is often the more convenient and faster option. You can fly from major Indian cities to Lhasa Gonggar Airport and then proceed with your journey by road. This option allows you to acclimatize to the high altitude gradually, as Lhasa is situated at a relatively lower elevation compared to Mount Kailash.
On the other hand, traveling by road from India offers a more adventurous and scenic route. It involves crossing the border into Tibet through one of the designated border points, such as the Nathu La Pass in Sikkim. This route allows you to experience the diverse landscapes of India and Nepal before reaching Tibet. However, it's essential to note that this option may require more time and careful planning, as well as obtaining necessary permits and visas for both India and Tibet.

Ultimately, the choice depends on your preferences, time constraints, and comfort level with long road journeys. Both options have their unique experiences and considerations. If you have any further questions or need assistance with planning your journey to Mount Kailash, please feel free to contact us. We're here to help!

  • Mrs. Bauer from Germany, asked on March 18th, 2024

    Cash Exchange

We are planning Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, and now I am confused about exchange money. Would you like to tell us from where can we get money exchange to Chinese yuann, is it to get exchanged in Nepal? Are Money exchange available in Tibet Gyirong?

Mr. Tashi Wangyal from Tibet Horizon, answered on March 18th, 2024

Dear Bauer, thank you for reaching out with your query regarding the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra.

Exchanging money to Chinese Yuan (CNY) in Nepal is not very convenient. Instead, you can exchange currency in Tibet at several locations such as Lhasa, Shigatse, Gyirong, and Purang. For small amounts, your tour guide can assist you. For larger amounts, the Bank of China in Tibet offers foreign currency exchange services. Some four and five-star hotels also provide this service for guests, though they may charge a higher handling fee.

For convenience, it's best to exchange your money in Lhasa. The current exchange rate is approximately 7.3 CNY to 1 USD, but it's advisable to check the latest rate before exchanging. Additionally, carrying small denominations can be useful in remote areas.

If you have any further questions or need assistance, please feel free to contact us at any time.
